Best friend and agent, Samantha Ho, has gotten her a movie deal and a reality TV show about her forthcoming bakery, named after her bestselling series. The frosting on Brenda’s cake is her engagement to handsome and sexy Warren Stillman, a Beverly Hills attorney.
Complications arise whenever any communication she sends or receives turns into snippets of a cheesy fantasy story. Her agent, fiancé, movie producer and anyone else on the receiving end thinks she’s playing a stupid joke. Who is responsible for hijacking her career, her finances, and even her fiancé?
For Brenda, finding the culprit is necessary to make sure that her dreams aren’t derailed. In the process, she wonders if her aspirations are as dreamy as she’s imagined?

Duane Knight, the CPA of Knight, Knight and Simpson Inc., had a spacious office on the twelfth floor with a stunning ocean view. I loved going to his office and looking at the ocean and hearing about how my money was doing, as he believed heavily in investing it. He knew how to make money for me and his attention to detail was meticulous.
"I want to buy that house I've been looking at in Pacific Palisades. There's this beautiful four-bedroom on Porto Marina Way that's just been listed this week. It's perfect for Warren and I."
Duane smiled. "How much is it?"
"It's just been reduced by $200,000! It was built two years ago and it's 4,000 square feet – almost double of that cramped little condo I'm in now!"
"You didn't say how much it cost. And how could it be reduced by $200,000 if it was just put on the market?"
I smiled. "You don't understand—my fiancé Warren will help me pay for it. I don't want to move into Warren's house in Beverly Hills. I want to start my new life with Warren in a different place – especially one that overlooks the ocean!"
"Brenda, you still didn't answer my question—how much?"
"Well, it's about two or three million. And there's another one that only costs 1.5 million on Amalfi Drive but it was built in the early 1960s so it's quite a bit older."
Duane was looking at the stack of files with my name labeled on each one and opened up the top file, flipping through the pages. "As I always say to my clients, it's your money. And I see that it keeps coming in from all your book sales and your movie deal and that reality show on the Dessert Network which will coincide with that bakery in Brentwood that you'll open in October or November ..."

Thanks to her blog and the many reviewers, her books are selling like hot cakes. You know you have made it big when your book has been selected for a television series. Before Brenda can focus on the new series, she has a big problem. Her upcoming fifth book has suddenly turned into a sci-fi. It is about aliens from the Planet Ho. Brenda must find out who is sending this script and pawning it off as Brenda before her career is ruined.
Sweet Dreams by Lisa Maliga is a fun, quirky book. I would call this book more of a light comedic story with a hint of romance and sweet treats.
In the beginning I found Brenda's talking about herself charming. However as the story progressed and Brenda still kept commenting on herself, I started to get annoyed and turned off. I than found her self-centered. For example "My hair was behaving itself and it would behave even more if I put it into a sophisticated braided bun so that it wouldn't fly around with my BMW convertible's top down."
Although I do have to admit that the parts from the sci-fi book were funny. Using the words "root organ and drilling in the secret area". Of did I forget to mention that the sci-fi is an erotic sci-fi. Also I liked the words of wisdom that was included at the beginning of each chapter from Brenda herself. Like "Take screen shots of your #1 bestseller so that it will remain there longer."

Review: Sweet Dreams by Lisa Maliga
Alright, I confess. I may the only person that read the book this way, but I thought the story was somewhat tongue in cheek, a bit of sarcasm, humor and perhaps satirical. I laughed out loud at Brenda’s comments. Yes, she was living the life of a successful novelist, flaunting her black Amex card, shopping on Rodeo Drive. There isn’t really anything wrong with that, after all she did earn that money. But, it was her thoughts and feelings about things that made her not so much a snob, but just really, really shallow. Her success has kind of gone to her head. When someone seems to have it in for her she has a hard time dealing with that. However, it does seem like Brenda is kind of forcing it, trying to love her life when maybe she’s found it’s not all it’s cracked up to be in some ways.
Her morals, her bank account, her career are all called into question along with her love life. Is everything she as amassed worth it? Is she really happy? Who is playing this hideous prank on her?
As a book reviewer I couldn’t help but find a few of Brenda’s inner thoughts just a tiny bit snarky. A reviewer who claimed your request for a book review got sent to their spam folder, and all that frilly stuff Brenda spouts off on her blog had me in stitches. Sounds like our author knows from whence she came. This is a delightful novella and I am for sure going to keep my eyes open for more from this author. The only complaint I had was that the books sort of ended abruptly. I do hope I have “gotten” what the author was trying to convey here. This is really light reading with a touch of sci-fi or paranormal and will have your mouth watering for cupcakes.
