EXCERPT
“How the hell did you get in here?” She bolted off the bed to rush past him. She didn’t want him anywhere near her mother’s bedroom. It felt like he was invading her and her mother’s private place.
“Your mother was concerned that you’d come here and lock yourself away from the world. She wanted to make sure you had someone when you needed them, so she gave me a key.” Cedric followed the daughter whose love he had tried so hard to win. It broke his heart to see her in tears and not even be allowed to hold her. If only he could erase his biggest mistake.
“Now isn’t that funny,” Tara sneered, “the one person who has never been there when I needed him is here for me now. Well Cedric, you and your concern can kiss my butt.” She pushed past him again, but he’d had enough of her avoiding him. Grabbing her arm, he stopped her in her tracks.
“Tara that’s enough. You agreed that you would give me a chance, but you have done nothing but avoid me and scorn me since I got here. The fact is, I am your father and I am the person you will have to depend on. Now I’m here and here is where I’ll be until we leave together in two days. And if you plan to protest that issue, you can forget it. Your mother also informed me that chances are you plan to stay by yourself until the apartment is no longer yours, but you can forget it.” He watched the variety of emotions cross the face that resembled his so much. The first was shock, the last fury.
Tara sucked in a breath and walked up to Cedric to stare him dead in the eye. “You have a lot of freaking nerve. Why do you have to keep throwing what my mother said to you in my face? Maybe if you’d stuck around, you’d know for your damn self what I’d do and how I’d act. If you are going to be here, fine, but you are going to be here for the whole week until I get things straight. My mother said this time you will consider what I need instead of being a selfish bastard and walking out when I need you most. Like we all know you did before.” How about that for playing on emotions you dog, Tara thought before slamming into her room.
