The Manx Tales is a collection of micro-fiction stories, each one no longer than 1000 words. In fact the shortest one is only 324 words long. The stories detail the lonesome existence of Manx, as he survives the daily rituals associated with life in the urban landscape, in the latter days of the 20th Century. This volume also contains several illustrations by the author. Excerpt OLD ROCKING CHAIR Manx rinsed and spit, watching the pink swirl move towards the drain. Looking into the mirror, he wasn't pleased with his new look. Forty-nine miles of bad road stared back at him, hard and cracked like the remnants of route 66, pockmarked like old Anaheim Blvd. (down by the harbor). The whites of his eyes were framed with a watery red line that reminded him of the dawn's early light and tiny red veins meandered out towards the pupils like lazy bolts of lightning. The lower eyelids looked like two fat-bellied burlap snakes digesting a full meal. A liver spot was developing on his cheek, spreading like the slick from a leaking 50 gallon drum of oil.

Raindog [RD Armstrong] writes with amazing clarity & sensitivity for a guy who thinks so highly of Charles Bukowski. Carol Andreg
