This book is a work of fiction, set in the work place, which exposes the myth of 'the caribbean paradise'
“That sounds like a big quarrel. But where it coming from?” she asked looking around.
She was right the indistinct voices were becoming gradually louder as we walked into the courtyard. The fracas sounded as though it was coming from my Department, as we got even closer I recognized the previously incoherent bellowing was Agatha who was being rivaled by the softer yet distinct screeching of Luanne.
“…because you have self esteem problems, I have a devouted husband, children, two expensive cars, a big house!”… “Well you know and I know that there are things”… “Things, things, what things?”… “I
know and you know”… “Women are jealous of me, people wish they were me!”… “We both know”… “Know, know what? You know nothing, you have nothing, you’re a little low esteem nobody!” Agatha’s roars meshed with Luanne’s shrieks in a confused jumble.
“Girl what the hell going on inside that place?” Sharon asked. “It sounds like your boss lady throwing some kind of fit on somebody. She crazy or what she don’t respect her position or what?”
“Go in there and stop them Erica. People coming out of the other offices.” Liddy said anxiously as she tried to shove me towards the door.
“Me, stop her you crazy?” I scoffed, firmly planting my feet in resistance.
“Just try, they embarrassing your entire Department. And we don’t know if there’re strangers on the compound this is an embarrassment to the entire Division” Sharon prodded helping Liddy to half pull half push my statue like body.
Thankfully before they could get me to the office the noise subsided. The door flung open and Agatha charged out, not for the first time I pondered how much she resembled a cow; stupid and bovine looking when she was pleased and a raging bull when she was angry. She did not even notice us as she barreled towards her sleek black Mercedes; hurled open the door gassed it up and raced off. Half a second later Thydeus emerged from the door looked around and hurriedly walked towards the main gate.
Taking a deep breath I hesitantly entered the office to find every one sitting in a state of silence, looking as though they had all eaten stale curry.
Luanne looked the worse; visibly shaken, I didn’t know that a black woman could look pale until I saw her ashen face.
“What…?” Was all I could ask.
“Luanne and the boss had a fight.” Verispoy whispered sending a tentative glance in her direction.
“How, why?” I continued mimicking his subdued tones.
