When the Calaren encountered them, the malevolent Nauq had destroyed life in their galaxy and were embarking on a campaign to destroy all life in the universe – one galaxy at a time.
Experimenting with time travel, the Calaren’s first attempt to stop the Nauq - Amalgaman - turned out to be more evil. The Calaren efforts ended with their galaxy victim to a partly self-inflicted temporal anomaly.
That anomaly, thought to have killed Amalgaman, caused thousands of years to pass outside in only a few weeks for the Calaren, but they had to try again. By Earth year 2198, the Nauq were continuing their nefarious plot and now infested other galaxies. Soon their destruction would lead to the Milky Way and Earth.
The Calaren searched the 58 galaxies again and found an Arian princess, a telekinetic in another galaxy, and a handful of Earth Terrans (21st - 25th centuries) with phenomenal powers - forming a new champion: Empyrean.
Will this attempt stop the Nauq before humankind is obliterated or would it end in a universal temporal disaster?
“The coins are homing devices and the belt needs them to work. Each coins symbol matches one of the symbols on the yellow lights. Wherever the coins are is where the belt can teleport you to their location. You touch a yellow light on the belt to choose the homing device you want and then touch the blue light to send you there.”

“There is one function of the belt that I am sure your race has not gleaned. The belt can be preprogrammed to a succession of jumps. You touch the blue 3 times, then the yellow. You repeat the process for each subsequent jump you want to make. Each jump will be performed at the same time interval as the interval between each programmed jump. To activate the sequence you simply touch the blue three times. When you do not touch a yellow the belt will begin taking you through the jumps.”

Davies stepped to the side, away from Fiesta and took up a martial arts stance. Robert stared at him. Davies willingness was fine with Robert.
To Spenser’s surprise, Robert took the coins from his pocket to implement his original plan and threw them at the man. Some bounced off Davies and they all fell around him. Some rolled a little bit away, but basically they surrounded the kidnapper. Both men’s eyes stayed locked on each other.
“If you expected to distract me you were badly mistaken. I can’t believe you thought that would work.”
To Spenser’s further amazement, Robert began to tap the blue light on the belt. Mathews tapped the blue light three times and that was it. This was something new to Spenser, if it meant anything. Surely, Mathews would not leave his precious Fiesta behind. Not a chance. There was a few seconds delay and then Mathews did vanish. But he did not go far. He appeared to the right and a little behind Spenser where the first coin in the sequence had fallen. He stepped forward and delivered a couple of punches, then vanished again.
A second later Spenser, who had not even had the chance to turn toward his attacker, found himself on the receiving end of a kick to the head. Mathews disappeared again before he could deliver any more blows on that jump. Mathews appeared again, this time right in front of his target, but Davies was too shocked to move. Mathews was there long enough to deliver several more blows and jumped a fourth time. He attacked and disappeared a fifth and a sixth time. Three times he came back and quickly attacked. By the seventh jump Davies was on the floor. His seventh appearance was not very close and so no blow was delivered.
Davies tried to get up and Robert appeared an eighth time and kicked the one leg Davies had under him. That brought the kidnapper to fall with a thud on the floor again. Robert vanished and reappeared for the ninth and last time and ended up right next to the man. With a kick that connected with Spenser’s head, he put the man out. Robert removed Davies teleportation belt from his waist and grabbed the laser pistol. He was grateful that Davies had not had the chance to use either one.
