A Union private is ordered to hold Lincoln captive in the White House basement by Secretary of War Stanton who then substitutes a Lincoln look-a-like upstairs so he can run the war through him.
Secretary of War Edwin Stanton becomes impatient with the progress of the Union's strategy in the fall of 1862, kidnaps President Lincoln, holds him captive under guard in the White House basement and replaces him with a look-alike whom Stanton can use to force his own strategies upon the Union military. Eventually Stanton has to go to the basement for advice from the real Lincoln. At the end of the war he has two Lincolns and no solution on how to end the situation he created.
