"Accidental Intent"--Hidden since 1918, a second sheet of a hundred “Jenny Invert” stamps, each worth $100,000, have surfaced and someone wants them badly enough to kill.
"Accidental Intent" begins with an incident that Laney McVey first believes is only a cruel joke on her friend, Shar Hamilton, but Laney soon learns that the “prank” hints of a crime committed two generations before. Hidden since 1918, a second sheet of a hundred “Jenny Invert” stamps, each worth $100,000, have surfaced and someone wants them badly enough to kill.
The lives of Shar, her fiancé and his five-year-old niece are at stake in a story of greed and murder which climaxes in a flight of terror.
Excerpt
Just as his blood-slippery finger hooked the eye, Talia spun and her hind legs shot at him like a machine gun volley, her hooves crashing into his side and kidneys. His body recoiled in agony and terror.
“Keely,” he sputtered through bubbling blood. His arms were leaden and his finger slipped from the eyebolt. Slowly, his body slid down the unforgiving oak boards into straw wet with blood and his excrement, while the unrelenting hooves pounded his skull, gut and chest. He smelled the mare’s sweat and fear—or was it his own? His consciousness ebbed.
Cowering in her corner, the foal whinnied and abruptly, the fierce strikes pummeling Ray’s body lessened and the mare began to calm. Talia tossed her giant head and approached her foal, leaving Ray crumpled in the straw. Through the blur of swollen eye slits and pain, Ray saw Talia nuzzle her colt and begin to eat from the alfalfa hay net that hung from a corner post. Below, the baby nosed a teat, then sucked noisily.
“Sc . . . Scotty,” Ray whispered as blackness closed over him like a shroud.
