Six authors from Laredo Write Now, a south Texas writers' group, chronicling life in short stories with diverse and passionate voices.

When do riches become a burden? When does charity become its own worst enemy? Nicolas Treviño offers "A Man Who Would Not Donate," the story of a mysterious Guild, a group of the world's wealthiest men--and the eternal struggle between what is right and what is just wrong.

Raj Moorjani follows Treviño's tale with "A Broken Haiku," a sweeping love story that spans two continents while weaving prose and poetry into an unforgettable read.

Quirky and futuristic, Crystal Vasquez creates a new world order, chronicling a Mexico few would recognize and many would fear. Love confronts all obstacles, and the human heart renounces being dictated to--but what happens when just your social status prohibits your right to entertainment--or love? Find out in Crystal's A Night Out.

Laredo is a dynamic, proudly bilingual city, and Elsa Martinez's touching "Lorenzo Y Rafaela"  uses the romantic beauty of Spanish to tell a sweet love store with an unforseeable twist.

Next up, Leslie P. Garcia's Horse vs Unicorn redefines reality and fantasy. When does a child's fascination with mythical beings cross the line into dangerous obsession? At what point should the adult in a room make a choice between reality and the magic of love?

Stephanie Garza closes out Pieces of Us with the memorable "Let's Cook With Cancer." Simple and authentic conversation among characters, a young woman's determination to become a chef, and a riveting tale of friendship, tragedy and triumph will stay with readers after the story is done.

Reviews for "Pieces of Us"

Reviewed by Ronald Hull 12/13/2018
Your eclectic book appears to be right out of the heart of Laredo. I am fortunate to be associated with a group of writers here in Houston, The Final Twist Writer Society. I have stopped going to their monthly meetings for a variety of reasons, but they are encouraging group of dedicated writers putting out books of short stories on themes that they select before writing.

Being somewhat of a loner these days after collaborating all my life during my work, my books of short stories are all my own.

None of the neighbors considered it trespassing. The run-downshack on 5 overgrown acres had been abandoned for years.
