The Davey Code is your immaculate guide to weight loss. Belisle's get-tough attitude on obesity strives to make Fat Guy a footnote in history.
Included in the book are the Fabled Tables of Calorie. How many calories are in that Big Mac? That triple thick vanilla milk shake? That (over) stuffed burrito?
The Davey Code sets out the necessary activities for the overweight and obese and how long they have to do them to burn off the calories -- no matter if the person is 200, 250 or 300 pounds.
Belisle sets out to be part of the solution -- not part of the problem. This rant has reason. The cure is here. Act now before it's too late.

Is there really any point in debating this? Obesity is a weakness. Diabetes is a disease. The bizarre thing is that if Fat Guy became Fit Guy, he could stamp out diabetes.
The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that obesity and diabetes are so closely linked that 89% of newly diagnosed cases of diabetes in 2003 were caused by excessive weight. 30% were overweight with a BMI of 25 to 30 while the remaining 59% were obese … with a BMI of 30 or above. The buzzword some health experts have come up with to describe the situation is Diabesity.
18.2 million people in the U.S. have diabetes. From 1990 (4.9%) to 2002 (8.7%), the number of affected Americans has almost doubled.
Diabetes problems center around the insulin hormone. Type 1 diabetes happens in children when they have high blood sugar and their body can’t produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes has the body not making enough insulin or the body simply not responding properly to it. Type 2 diabetes involves over 90% of all diabetes cases and is directly related to obesity and a lack of physical activity.
The bad thing is that Type 2 diabetes is now being diagnosed in children. Diabetes is a slow killer. It damages organs, wipes out cells and shortens lives. 73,249 death certificates in the U.S. listed diabetes as the underlying cause. That makes it the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. Fat Guy who becomes diabetic by age 40 will cut short his life span by 11 years. Fat Gal will fall short 14 years. Diabetics are six times more likely to suffer heart disease.
Other numbers for diabetics in the U.S. point to unfortunate fates:
• 24,000 a year go blind
• 28,000 suffer kidney failure, requiring frequent dialysis
• 82,000 will have an amputation this year.
People who get Type 2 diabetes are practically asking for it. It’s so easy to prevent. Mix in one part intelligence with two parts will power and do the following:
• Exercise
• Eat more fruits and vegetables
• Eat more fiber
• Eat less fat
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Breastfeed infants
That’s it. No rocket science. Maybe that’s the problem. In our push-button virtual world, technology has made major leaps and bounds. There is still no pill to give your body calorie-burning exercise.
Diabesity is a start, but let’s get to the root of the disease. This one has Ikea and Ireland written all over it. The Couch Potato Plague.
A 30-year-old, 6-foot, 300-lb Fat Guy who does nothing but watch TV all day burns a total of 3152 calories daily. That’s based on burning 136 calories per hour while soaking up Oprah, Dr. Phil and Jerry Springer for 16 hours and burning 122 calories per hour while sleeping for 8 hours. Three 1200-calorie meals a day put Fat Guy squarely behind the eight ball.
Why would Fat Guy want to be lying in a hospital bed with a medical clipboard hanging from the end of it that spells out bad news like heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, leg and foot amputations and even blindness? Fat Guy should stand up and take note or somebody else will be ordering his food.
INT. – HOSPITAL ROOM – DAY
The hospital male INTERN enters the room with a tray containing soup and a sandwich.
INTERN
Lunch time.
FAT GUY sits up in bed. He wears black glasses. He’s blind.
FAT GUY
What took you so long? You should have been here an hour ago.
INTERN
I’m five minutes early.
(BREAK)
You’re blind, remember?
The intern puts the tray on a bedside table.
FAT GUY
Aw, c’mon. Can’t I have my food on my lap?
INTERN
Oh no. We’ve been over that. It always winds up IN your lap because you spill everything. You’re in such a hurry. You need to calm down. Control yourself.
The intern spoons soup from a bowl.
INTERN
Open wide. Here’s your soup.
Fat Guy gulps it down.
FAT GUY
You call that a spoon? Give me the damn bowl.
INTERN
No. Here’s your sandwich.
The intern hands Fat Guy a sandwich. Fat Guy takes a bite, chews and stops.
FAT GUY
Did you eat my cheese?
INTERN
What? Of course not.
FAT GUY
Hey! I’m missing half a sandwich.
INTERN
I cut it in half. Here, see?
The intern hands the other half of the sandwich to Fat Guy. Fat Guy carefully feels around the sandwich. Satisfied, he wolfs it down.
