Just as Art was about to speak loud shrieks and screams were heard coming from inside the Gelamen. From Matt’s vantage point he could see inside. Matt could make out the image of a hologram. It was the face and upper body of Taz. His words bellowed above the screams.
“Members of The Planetary Alliance by siding with the humans you have dishonored and betrayed the memories of your ancestors.” Taz’s head swiveled from side to side as he spoke. “You have brought shame and disgrace to this once great union by turning your backs on your true brothers the Otarian's in our time of need. For this unforgivable act of betrayal you will pay with your lives.”
In an instant the image was gone. The looks on the faces of all of the leaders said it all. The shock, amazement, and fear were impossible for them to conceal.
The festivities had come to a screeching halt when a burst of flames suddenly shot down the curtains from the front of the Gelamen. Before anyone could act fire quickly surrounded the entire structure and trapped everyone inside four walls of flames. The breeze was strong enough to blow the deadly flames over the top of the structure preventing an air rescue.
The onlookers outside watched in horror as Dante bolted toward the inferno. “Father!” he cried.
Matt was barely able to grab the Prince’s arms to hold him back. “No!” He yelled, “No! You will never make!”
“I must try,” argued the Prince. They could hear the cries for help from inside.
“Not all is lost” said Elder Manook.
Art snapped his fingers. “The enviromentalizers, we can make it rain to put out the fire.” Without another word, Art ran over to one of the uni-zip bikes and sped off. The Princes’ look of anguish turned to disbelief when he stared helplessly at the flaming Gelamen.
Arianna held his hand tightly. “What is it?” she asked.
“The curtains, look at the curtains, they’re flames are orange” he mumbled. “They should be yellow. The flames should be yellow. The water will not help. The fabric has been tampered with something. Someone has treated it with the Instant Inferno. I am sure of it. I helped my Father to create it. By the time the flames die out they will all have suffocated or be incinerated.”
Hearing these words Manook headed off toward the Whistling Forest. “Come!” He shouted “We must not tarry, time is of the essence.”
Just as they reached the edge of the forest the rain had begun to fall. Art was successful in having the engineers reprogram the enviromentalizers but his effort would be in vain.
The glowing stones made it easier for Elder Manook to find what he was searching for. “Here! Over here!” He pointed to the large brown leaves lying on the ground near a group of the glowing orange and yellow rocks. The leaves were about two feet across and four feet high. “Opa leaves,” he shouted, “Quickly, grab as many as you can carry. Time is growing short.”
As they scooped up the leaves, Matt could not help but wonder what Manook was up to. “How can a couple of leaves put out a roaring chemical fire?”
The flames from the Gelamen lit up the night sky. It was so bright that Matt used the fire as a beckon to guide them as they ran back in the rain. As Prince Dante had predicted the downpour did not affect the bright orange flames, in fact they seem to burn even brighter. Elder Manook turned to the group holding the leaves. “Follow my instructions.”
The heat from the flames was almost unbearable.
