Brock opened the door. A blast of cold air whooshed out. The faint smell of death washed over him filling him with dread. He staggered back for a moment. His gaze landed on the child’s seat in the back. Empty. He drew near again and noticed the driver’s seat was reclined. A body lay curled on its side holding a bundle close.
His voice gruff, he called, “Bring us a light. Luke, open the doors on the other side.”
Digger held the light as Brock leaned in to look at the bowed figure on the seat. From the person’s figure and profile, he couldn’t deny the delicate features beneath the mask belonged to a woman. She was dressed from head to toe in a silvery grey snowsuit with fur-trimmed matching boots. Fur as soft and as grey as a dove’s wing edged her parka making her appear ethereal. Dark lashes brushed her face covering, similar to a ski mask, made with cut-outs for her eyes, nose, and mouth.
He carefully pulled the blanket away from the bundle and groaned at the mummified features of what had once been a child. Oh, God, no. Not a baby.

Fasten your seat belt because Born in Ice takes us on an emotional roller coaster ride through the remarkable journey of one woman's rebirth from her icy grave into a radically changed world 75 years in the future. Not only does Zana suddenly find herself thrust into an unknown world but while her goal is to find her missing daughter, Katy, there is something evil afoot and she must watch her back or she'll be the next one murdered.
There were so many unique twists and turns to the plot and Ms. LaRoque's writing was so riveting that I was completely enthralled and drawn in. I must admit, I tend to avoid books that involve me so emotionally but wow I was so glad I took a chance and read this one. Ms. LaRoque has definitely made her way onto my auto-buy list.
Overall, if you are looking for a great futuristic/sci-fi/romantic suspense, look no further than Born in Ice. You won't regret it!
Sci-Fi Romance with an Interesting Premise,
I've read this author's time travels and western-themed books set in Texas, and was interested in reading a story of hers in a different genre. This sci-fi story set in the future is a vast departure from her other work. I don't read sci-fi because it's generally not a genre I'm interested in, but I enjoyed this plot and the twists that came along as the story progressed. Ms. LaRoque has a good imagination. As far as sci-fi goes, it was realistic, and I could easily visualize the underwater city of Abyss as well as believe the way the Earth and society's rules had changed so drastically since the heroine was frozen seventy-five years prior in an avalanche. The story is more plot driven than focused on the developing romance, but with that said, the hero and heroine's conflicts were believable. Anyway, I enjoy a tale with an action-packed storyline, and Born in Ice gives the reader that. The premise is very interesting, and I'm glad I took a chance and read something out of this author's usual genre.
Amazing Read
The twists and turns of, BORN IN ICE by Linda LaRoque, will thrill your senses. Unforgettable characters, an amazing story backed up by solid science, all wrapped round masterful storytelling skills and you get a page turner of monumental proportions. I highly recommend this book. It was a delight from start to finish and very easy to give five stars.
