Most of us travel well-worn paths with the expressed mission of “breaking out” of the RUT. It seems to be the right thing to do on the surface; who wants to think of themselves as being in such a routine that they can not, should not, dare not veer off the trail?

Not another self-help book, RUT Management is a fun, but truthful look at the very human tendency to pursue distraction rather than maintaining the focused pursuit of long term goals and dreams. This work addresses the constant conflict between “convention” and “change” in our lives. It examines RUT Development, RUT Anatomy, RUT Relationships, and RUT Management as tools for navigating the path through RUT, and for Discovering Adventure in the Routine Of Life.

Excerpt

Chaptpter One
There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth…not going all the way, and not starting. —Buddha

I can’t help you.

There, I’ve said it. I hope you’re not angry at me for convincing you by the awesome marketing and cover art that was designed to get you to grab this book off the proverbial shelf—real or virtual. The truth is the truth: I’m not the one to fix your RUT. For all I know, you may not even think you’re in a RUT. Well…you are. We all are. And there lies the challenge:

Until I recognize I’m in a RUT, my RUT is impossible to manage

Before we go any further, let’s get one thing straight. This book is a self-exploration tool, not a Mark is going to give you all the information you need to fix your life tool. Your life is your life, not mine. I hope that everything you glean from these pages influences great things to happen in your life. But the cause of those great things happening will not be me or the book. The cause will be what you do with the things shared herein.

Enough of warning labels…except maybe to say that this book should not be hazardous to your health. Now, let’s get to the important stuff!

What’s my RUT?

RUT Management assumes that you know you are traveling a Repetitive Unchanging Trajectory and that it is a personal journey. You may have companions in your RUT—we’ll address that later in the book—but without a doubt, it’s your RUT. Your decisions and choices determine the direction, consequences and the destination of your RUT. And that brings up a good question:

Is being in your RUT a good thing?

Did you happen to notice that I did not ask if being in a RUT is a good thing? That’s because no one else can determine your RUT’s value. It is measured only by the one who owns the trek. So, you tell me , is being in your RUT a good thing? How can you possibly know for sure?

Unexpected Result
I never considered finding adventure in life's daily routines until reading The focus of this book seems to me to be to help one see the benefit of perservering on a well thought out course, and it does so beautifully. For me, its blessing is the realization that the rut I am in is not getting me to any place I want to go. It is a wake up call. Thank you Mark A. Cornelius. I will keep your book to remind me of your wise advice and renew my enthusiasm.

RUT What?
This is a great book. Mark Cornelius has a style that reminds me of Dave Barry. It is a fun way to look at the ruts and routines of life.
