Major Claire Kirkland is a soldier and she is on her last tour as a doctor in Iraq. She has been overseas for months and when she gets to go home finally she will be retired. The day was harsh when a mortar attack hits there camp and Claire is running back and forth to take care of the injured soldiers. With one of the final mortars that hits a soldier run in with his commander over his shoulder. Sergeant Daniel Butler is hurt and hurt badly. When he looks up and see her above him he thinks she is an angel. He heard her promise that she would find him and he believe her. One of the final faces he saw before he was transported out to the hospital in Germany was her. Months later when Claire was back at work at the hospital Washington DC she did not expect to see Sergeant Butler standing in her office. He remembered her promise to find him and he intends for her to keep that promise. Sparks fly for the these two and they have to fit months of learning about each other into a few weeks before he goes back into the war zone. Will the love that Claire and Daniel found be able to withstand the distance. Will they be able to answer the call when love commands?
Daniel pulled away from the curb and started down the busy street. He had the radio tuned to a nice Jazz station. The music was relaxing and mellow, Claire felt the day’s tension begin to melt away.
Daniel glanced over at her and smiled. “So how was your day?”
“It went fine honey, did you get the kids from soccer practice?” Claire teased.
“Hey, don’t tempt me I know a Commander who could marry us.” Daniel replied with a grin.
I’m teasing, it’s actually very nice to have some one ask me how my day was. And it was fine by the way. Thank you for asking.”
“Where would you like to go to dinner?” Daniel asked.
“I am not partial, but let’s make it some where we can sit outside.” Claire requested.
“I know just the place.” Daniel turned the wheel and soon they were heading down Main Street. There was a comfortable silence between them, Claire was so relaxed she leaned her head back on the seat and closed her eyes. She must have dozed off because she felt a slight nudge to her shoulder. Her lids opened sleepily to see Daniel smiling at her.
Claire sat up right. “Oh my gosh! Did I doze off? I am so sorry Daniel.”
“You must have been more tired than you thought. I liked watching you sleep.”
“You were watching me?” Claire asked. Her head was still leaned back against the seat.
“Yes I was. But if you don’t move very soon I won’t be able to help myself from kissing you.” Daniel said softly.
“Ok.” Was her simple reply.
There was a smile on his face as his head descended to hers. His lips were soft and he moved them against hers lightly, just to enjoy the feel of her. Claire’s lips opened under his encouraging him to take the kiss deeper. Daniel did just that, his tongue invaded her mouth swiftly. A low groan escaped him as her followed him back into his mouth. The kiss ended with Daniel pulling away, but not before he took one, two three little tastes of her lips.
