Ashley and Josh arrived at the entry drive leading to the lighthouse. They could see that the building attached to the lighthouse was missing tiles from the roof and the paint was badly chipped. They looked up at the lighthouse and saw panes of glass were missing from the top of the lighthouse tower. It made Ashley sad to see the lighthouse in such a neglected state.
"Are you sure we should be here?" asked Josh.
"Don't be a baby, it's public property and of course we should be here. But there may be someone who shouldn't be inside there, and that's what we need to find out," said Ashley. She started to ride up the driveway and Josh had no choice but to follow her.
Ashley leaned her bike against a blue spruce tree, took off her helmet and started walking toward the door of the lighthouse building.
"Look, Josh," she said. "There are footprints in the dirt in front of the door." She moved closer to the window by the door and peeked in through the dirty glass.
