This is a look at the dark side of fantasy, but it's meant to be fun.
It was widely believed among many ancient civilizations, that beneath the typical façade of human behavior, lived a ravenous beast. This creature embodied all the dark elements of mammon. It’s teeth, hand carved from the glistening stalactites of Hades by the gods themselves, tore through the mind fodder that we fed upon and placated others with. They believed that once a man accepted this part of himself and acted out the sinister actions of the beast within, no amount of persuasion, neither from their gods or otherwise, could undo the steady course of chaos that ensued.
In the not so far reaches of my own mind live terrors that hunt in broad daylight; run rampant through my dreams; and leap forward unwittingly in a moment of ill-temper, consuming the goody-goody that society would have me to be…leaving only the basest, and somewhat truest remnants of me in its wake.
In this collection of dark poetry and prose, are the beasties that convey my deepest, darkest thoughts, their sharp white fangs gnashing together in the hope of consuming all who survey them up close. Consider this fair warning. Keep emergency contact numbers close at hand while partaking of these dark and wicked creatures of the mind, or a haz-mat team may wind up being dispatched to quarantine, and clear the area around you for fall-out.
With that notion, I leave you to savor the wicked notions of a non-conformant mind, and partake of the ravenous nature of the beast within. The title?
