The warmth and beauty of Christmas captured in poetry.
A treasury of Christmas poetry and memoirs from La Belle Rouge, Poetess Of The Heart
Excerpt
An Old Fashioned Christmas
An old fashioned Christmas like we had before
fire on the hearth, loved ones at the door
tinsel and popcorn strings hung on the tree
sparkling with colored lights for the world to see
Fat turkey in the oven, juicy and brown
fit to feed all the family coming soon to town
Grandma crocheting by the fire in her chair
Grandpa joins her in a Christmas carol there
Aunts and uncles in heavy coats, hats and gloves
each one bringing something the family loves
cakes and pies, hot chocolate and spiced tea
brightly wrapped presents for the cousins and me
Mama wearing her apron, Daddy wearing his grin
time to hang the holly and mistletoe again
oranges and apples, walnuts and peppermint
to fill all the stockings of each lady and gent
Coloring books and quiet games to play
along with loud excitement waiting for the day
when the presents have been left under the tree
all the things we wanted, a puppy, could it be?
We'll sing the old carols with voices so glad
it will be the best Christmas we ever had
the story of His birth will be read once more
while we dream of angels just outside our door
And if we wish real hard and pray as we go
maybe on Christmas Eve we'll have snow!
Congratulations! Old fashioned Christmases are lost I am afraid. Hopefully your new book will serve to remind me of how good they really were. From this excerpt it looks like a good gift for everyone's stocking. May love and peace be always with you my very dear friend. Jon Michael
