The story of a horse who felt different and alone as she grew up but found out she was beautiful and special.
One sunny morning, in his pasture, a farmer finds a little, baby horse. She has no mother so the farmer's wife feeds her milk from a bottle and gives her hay and grain. Rosie is different from all the other horses. She is turning pink and she can't run on her weak legs. The other horses tease her. Rosie is so sad because she's different. One day something magical happens and Rosie learns she may be different but she is special.
Immediately I'm thinking of The Ugly Duckling. If you can top that story, then you have a winner. My first thought is that the filly may be an albino. But if she is, it will make a great lesson for young readers that including others, some far different than we are, is important.
Fortunately, I have found that albinos are quite common among the black populations that I worked with in Atlanta and in Houston at predominantly black institutions.
If I'm off course here, forgive me. I tend to over think and then overwrite, sometimes.
