I haven't kept up with all the books that you been posting recently, but I can't imagine how you manage to turn out so many books about animals, and now, this dystopian novel when it's taken me over three years to put together two lesser books.
And I don't read very much, just trying to keep up with the few magazines I read, like National Geographic, Stanford magazine and a few others, occasionally.
But reading your synopsis, I sense that you felt the desire to write about a world that you think we are headed into that you call a fantasy. I hope you have a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe you do from what I read in the synopsis.
I remember reading a small book as a requirement for educational sociology, The Rise of the Meritocracy, back in 1973. The idea of the book was that leadership was decided by IQ so the smartest were put in leadership positions. In the end, women joined with the cast-off, lower IQ people to overthrow the meritocracy for a more equitable government. There were lessons, aplenty in that book.
As our population increases and we are crowded more and more into the slums in refugee camps, the rise of viruses will probably continue. Once there is a highly contagious and deadly, not like the Coronaviruses with low but agonizing mortality (data is just coming in on how surviving the variants, not only results in torturous immune system fights in the body, but there is heart and lung damage in healthy people, otherwise), but like Ebola. A friend of mine, decided not to go to the hospital and told me that he was at death's door and prayed for his life, before coming out of it. His wife got it, too. She has lupus. So he took one of her drugs that apparently helped him overcome the effects.
I have been watching people going off the grid and encroaching on the wilderness with their homesteads. Most don't seem to have a clue and rely heavily on civilization for their survival. They are ripping up more of the wilderness for their needs and destroying the ecosystem around them while they are "surviving."
