I would classify the book as a very "sweet" story. There are no villains, gratuitous sex scenes, murders, terrorists, etc... I'd also classify it as a "thinking woman's romance", containing, as it does, a lot about opera, learning a foreign language and living abroad. I researched the book while on a trip to Rome.
This "thinking woman's romance" is just the kind of book a lot of us guys need to read if we have any interest at all in understanding half the world's population, the half a lot of us think we can't live with and can't live without.
But more than this, through Dreaming in Italian I see a great opportunity to expand my small little world and add some culture.
I'm somewhat of a new-comer to the Den myself, Carol, but I welcome you with open arms. Better make that, "I welcome you." Familiarity breeds contempt, they say. Maybe we better take it one step at a time.
You'll find Den Dwellers to be a fantastic support group. As you'll soon learn, there are some amazing people and very talented writers here.
