At any rate, that doctor was on a jet across the Atlantic by now, though he would soon find
his own eternal rest just from natural old age. A minor in programming had allowed the young
man to pull off what might have been a stunt worthy of adulation among those brain dead frat
boys at his alma mater, heralded with alcoholic belches and farts and toasted with slices of
pizza. Well, those boys he had scarcely known were no longer in college. They were out in the
real world, with their families. Damn it.
The man lay back, and took a last look at the stars. He closed his eyes, took in his last
breath, covered his face, and whispered his last words: "I loved you." His watch, unaware that it
no longer served any useful purpose, would die four years later. Until then, it kept perfect time.
