Kim: I don't want to discuss this! We've been over it and over it; I'm not ready to give it up; I pay for everything don't I? I get the bills paid and I keep us a float!
*Mike shakes his head*
Mike: No, you don't; You're pulling us into the water with you...we're drowning Kim.
Kim: 'No I don't' what? No I don't pay for everything? Yes I do! I'm constantly giving you money for those bills! I--
*Mike storms into the closet and pulls out a box. He empties all its contents on the bed and glares at her*
Mike: This....this is your money. I don't touch it.
*Kim looks down at the money and sifts through it with her fingers. She looks up to him*
Kim: So you haven't been paying the bills? Mike, what's gonna happen to the house, wha--
Mike: It doesn't seem to bother you when you're out there with him does it?
Kim: I thought it was taken care of! When I gave you the money I thought you paid for thos--
Mike: I did pay for them, I got a second job.
Kim: A secon--how? Who picks up Ben?
Mike: I do. I do it all, Kim; And do you know why? Because I love this family enough to keep it together. Even though you don't.
Kim: *Mumbles* I care...
Mike: Really Kim? ...Really?
Kim: *Looks up at him* Yes! I do!
*Kim looks down and begins to sob*
Mike: Then how come we sleep in separate bedrooms? How come you treat your son like he's just a long lost nephew? He wants a mother, not a 20 thrown at him when he's done a good job at school.
Kim: I can't give him what he wants...I can't give him anything!
*She takes a deep sigh of frustration and wipes the tears from her eyes harshly; Taking her purse with her and storming out the door*
Mike: Where are you going?
Kim: I have a meeting at 7.
*Mike runs up to her and grabs her arm*
Kim: Let go of m--
Mike: Dino canceled.
*Kim stops and looks to him*
Kim: What?
Mike: Jeff called and said they canceled; Billy was killed.
*Kim pauses for a moment then shakes her head*
Kim: He was a stupid kid anyways.
*She walks back to the bedroom*
Kim: We're doing a r--
Mike: I won't allow it.
*Kim turns around and spits back*
Kim: You won't allow it?! Who do you think you are!?
Mike: I'm your husband! And I think I should be able to tell my wife no when she insists on going out with her ex-lover.
*Kim shoots a cold glare at him and closes the door so Ben can't hear*
Kim: I told you never to speak about that again.
Mike: What else am I supposed to do? Just let you wander the streets with him; at all hours of the night; not knowing whether or not I'll have go out searching for your dead body in a river?
*Kim presses her index finger up to her lips to quiet him down*
Mike: No! This is my house and I will speak as loud as I want to!
*Kim turns her back on him and goes to walk away when he grabs her arm firmly and spins her around*
Mike: This life is tough, Kim, and we've gotta survive. Ben and I are surviving, but you're just feeding off the floor like a cockroach. You call that living? You're so selfish you can't even see what's right in front of you...
Kim: I see what's in front of me, and I don't like it.
*She stares him down and pulls herself from his grasp firmly. She walks to the bed and points to the door*
Kim: Get out of my room.
*Mike stands motionless and clenches his teeth. He storms over to her and grabs her by the hair, pulling her down the hall and into Ben's room, where he's sleeping. She looks to the ground, tears streaming down her face as she inhales deeply, trying to control the sobs*
Mike: That is what you're missing. And all because you're just a money hungry woman with an appetite for destruction. He's gonna grow up and remember his mother as a low-life criminal with nothing to offer but a phone call from the state prison every other 5 years on birthdays.
*He releases her from his tight grip and she falls to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. Mike walks downstairs, leaving Kim to sob in the doorway of her son's room*
What am I doing to my life? What have I turned into?
*She slowly stands herself up and takes balance against the door frame. She walks to her bedroom, wiping her eyes. She sits on the bed and begins to think about her life; A life that includes her husband and her son. A life that isn't revolving around money or authority, but a life that has meaning; a life where love does exist and reality is a bowl of spilt milk in the morning...not another innocent life that's been taken too soon by the carelessness of strangers who pushed the poor kid too far. She walks to the lightswitch and turns it off; She goes to close the door, but smiles faintly and leaves it open, for the first time in 7 years.*
