when I breathe
and take in the scent
of fresh bread
when I rub menthol
on my child's
small chest
when I hear laughter
tinkling even through
a crowded room
I am surrounded by
mymother
her hands now smoothed
by life and care
she touches me
even thousands of miles away
but ever close
cuddled closer
as the years pass
and I become
the parent
and she the child
