A penitentiary so dangerous that other Maximum Security Prisoners don't wanna go.

This is a suspense drama based on the life of Sherman. He finds himself in one of the deadliest penitentiary in the world. The guards aren't even safe. Sherman's options are either kill or be killed.

This book was written while Lamont Carey was in prison. It is a great read for adults and a scared straight book for youth.

Book is available on all downloadable devices such as kindle, Nook, etc.

Excerpt

Chapter One

The fearful eyes of sixty inmates dressed in orange prison jumpsuits peered through the bars that covered the windows of the bus. As it drove along the massive prison compound known as Lorton, the bus stopped at the first of two closed gate entrances to the Occoquan maximum security prison. They could see Sergeant Ruckus staring down at the bus from the upper level open doorway of the guard tower. He held an M-16 at the ready.

A deathly silence consumed the bus. Hearts started to rapidly pound. Their eyes remained locked on Sergeant Ruckus. He was a sure sign that they have just entered hell. He slowly walked over to the railing of the tower with his assault rifle firmly in hand as he peered down at the bus.

Corporal Bird walked out the exit door of the tower. He held a long black pole with a mirror connected to its end. He stood and stared at the bus. Ruckus then signaled to someone inside the tower. Seconds later, the first gate screeched as it slowly opened. The bus drove up to the second security gate and stopped. The first gate closed behind the bus.

Corporal Bird was buzzed through a side door that was built into the gate. He walked over to the bus and began to scan underneath of the bus with his instrument. After he circled the bus, he nodded his approval to Ruckus. The second gate screeched open and the bus drove a mile to the building where all new inmates are processed.

The building stretched a half of a block with a long walkway that seemed to disappear between a narrow pathway which led to the entrance doors. From a distance it looked like two buildings. There were at least fifty prisoners that lounged around on both sides of the walkway. They all wore the prison uniform of blue cotton slacks, blue button down shirts, and black boots. They watched the bus as the door opened. U.S. Marshall Jackson made his way off the bus.

“Move back!”

He barked at the prisoners who were hanging around the entrance. They nonchalantly strolled along the walkway, where the new arrivals must travel to enter inside the prison. The inmates positioned themselves in a way that provided a view of the bus. Some were hoping to see someone they knew. Some were looking for prey. The rest just wanted to see the new prisoners.

Jackson walked back onto the prison bus and peered at the inmates seated behind the metal gate that separates them from himself and the driver. Everyone looked at the Marshall, some in fear. Others displayed impatience. The remainder simply awaited Jackson’s directions.

“When you exit the bus, ALL of you will walk down that long walkway! You will be met by a prison guard at the end of the walk. During this walk, you may see somebody you know. But, you better not stop! Once you get to the guard, he or she will tell you what’s expected of you. So, now I want the right row to come off the bus first. Starting with the two men in the front then I want the left row to do the same. Let’s move!!” shouted Jackson

The inmates who sat on the right side of the bus all stood up, shackled and handcuffed. The handcuffs were locked to a waist chain. Jackson unlocked and opened the metal gate that separated them from the officers. Then he stepped off the bus.

The driver told them to get off the bus. The men filed out one by one. Some were carrying clear bags that contained all of their belongings. Sherman was the last man to exit the bus. He was a medium build twenty four year old with a sandy brown complexion. He had no facial hair.

Sherman tried to stretch but being chained up made it difficult. He then took a deep breath and blew it out towards the hot air.

“Down the walkway!” Jackson yelled out.

The Marshall pointed toward the walkway. Sherman looked at the Marshall then started walking. He looked at the prisoners as he continued to walk down the walkway. Some of the inmates had smiles on their faces, others frowned at him. The rest were expressionless. The ages of the men appeared to vary from as old as sixty and as young as sixteen. Sherman thought he saw someone he knew from the streets but when he looked again, it didn’t look like the guy.

The big red brick building surrounded the walkway. Once Sherman reached the middle of the walkway, Howard and Tim blocked his path. Tim put his hand on Sherman’s chest.

Howard was a tall, light skinned man with a muscular build. Tim was black as the night sky without the moon. He was shorter than Howard with a solid build.

Tim stared sinisterly at him. Sherman stared back, unintimidated.

“Slim, what’s up?! What the f**k you doing?” asked Sherman.

“B*tch, shut up! I want those tennis shoes!” said Tim.

“Nigga, you better get the fuck out of my way!” Sherman sneered.

Tim looked at his friend. Howard then reached into his pants and pulled out a seven inch jail knife. Tim stared back into Sherman’s eyes

“Either I’m going to get those shoes from a walking man,” said Tim, “or a dead man. Your choice.”...

The Hill: An Absolutely Intriguing, Suspenseful Book
This book demands your attention! The story depicted in The Hill seems so real that I could visualize the characters. Each time Sherman went through something during the story, I wanted to find a way to assist him through it.

Mr. Carey is such a great writer. He captured my attention in the very beginning of the book and kept me curious about what would happen next. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves to read suspenseful books!
