Daniels and Galfano bumped into each other at the edge of the sitting room.
“Where are you heading, Jack?’
“Just a quick walk through to see if anything jumps out at me.”
“Anything so far?
“Nothing yet… other than seeing how the rich people live.”
“Well they’re a little poorer today. Or at least their companies are.”
“Have you heard what the final number was?’
“Seven hundred and twenty million.”
Daniels laughed aloud. “Seven hundred and twenty million. Not a bad day’s work…was anyone hurt?”
“Only the club manager. One of the kidnappers knocked her in the head. She’ll need a few stitches. They’re fixing her up right now.”
“What are the Feds up to?”
“They want to vet everyone in the building just on the odd chance that the bad guys are hiding themselves among the members and staff.”
Daniels shook his head and laughed again.
“I know. It seems pretty stupid to me also. Finish your thought for me. What do you think happened?”
Taking a moment to collect his thoughts, Daniels took a deep breath before responding. “The bad guys knew what they were doing. Seven hundred and twenty mil and no one hurt. I seriously doubt that they left anything behind that may help us… I would guess that they had assistance from someone on the inside. They obviously knew about the Club’s annual Christmas fundraiser, and had a good idea of who would be here and who they represent…and somehow they managed to pull this off while they were long gone hours ago.”
“Finish your tour…when you’re done, come and find me.”
