A New House – A New Life
Still recovering emotionally from the trauma she suffered from Cole Jordan and Jeffery Holland, Savannah tries to settle back into a normal life with her job, new house and now an unexpected pregnancy. When she and Ennis are called to a crime scene at the new city aquarium, she discovers there are more battles at hand, these with the newly elected mayor.
Vendettas By the Numbers
One, Savannah soon learns Mayor Franklin O’Neill wields an iron fist and holding grudges is his specialty. Two, for months Cole Jordan has eluded capture but keeps her in his sights for his avowed vengeance. And three, Savannah hears from the one man she fears the most – Jeffery Holland.
Crushing Surprises
The mayor, Cole and Jeffery all push her to the limit but it’s the surprise of Ennis’s past that brings her to her knees. Can Savannah solve a murder, find Cole, keep Jeffery in prison and save not only her marriage but her sanity?
Excerpt
It had to be the nightmares causing it. Savannah dropped to her knees and heaved in the toilet for the third time before leaving for work. The night terrors usually brought bad moods, not puking, she reflected. She didn’t feel particularly bad but the throwing up was getting really old. For the past week or so she suffered from one bout or another, making her wonder if she caught a bug somewhere.
Unfortunately her morning didn’t improve when she approached the sergeant’s desk for an update on Cole. No sightings, no phone calls, no luck at all. Nearly four months and no one cornered him.
The extended time between reports inspired hope that he’d finally run across the wrong woman and she’d killed him. Savannah did her part after escaping Jeffery and Cole’s remote cabin by ventilating him a few times. Maybe he was dead, she thought with a smile. The day began looking brighter with that prospect.
At least until she and Ennis were called to a crime scene. The good mood she fostered for all of half an hour swirled the drain when her husband zipped around the corner in their detective’s Taurus. The g-force pushed her against the passenger door while the motion pushed her breakfast up her throat.
“You callin’ that therapist?” Ennis asked from the driver’s seat.
Busy trying to salvage her “most important meal of the day”, she entertained calling her M.D., not her shrink. If Ennis insisted on driving NASCAR style, she’d insist on Dramamine or a new driver. Just as she tried to reply, the car rounded a corner at a speed that tested the safety belt threshold.
“I’ll call if I have more nightmares,” she reminded then braced one hand on the dash, the other on her stomach. Deep breaths. Deep, deep breaths, she told herself.
Ennis was going to slow down – he just didn’t know it yet. The light ahead of them blinked red and she automatically checked the intersection. Cars heading east and west proceeded forward as their light turned green. Since the Taurus currently headed north, something needed to give. “Slow down, Ennis. Traffic’s starting up and this car isn’t equipped for a demolition derby. It's about to have a nervous breakdown.” And so am I...
