Without hesitating, she quickly flees the city of Detroit believing the police are unable to keep her safe until Bruno Fuller's trial. She disguises her looks, hoping neither Fuller's goons now the police will recognize her.

Though she admits the man is attractive, she has no intention of becoming involved. She already has made one bad marriage mistake and doesn't intend to make another. Also, she doesn't want to involve others in her problems with hit men or the police. She comes to trust Dr. Taylor, but then believes he has taken her future into his hands by informing the Detroit police of her whereabouts. It certainly appears to Felicity, she can't trust anyone.

Long after Felicity Scott left his office, Dr. Kenneth Taylor found the woman on his mind. A study in contrasts. Too glib, too easy with some answers, and then as if a shutter closed, terse, unyielding. He needed a woman, no, he amended, the clinic needed a woman or a man to consolidate records, to set up the equipment already purchased and delivered six months ago, selected by a so-called expert who later decided not to finish the job he had started. Ken let out a deep breath. After six months of trying to get someone experienced with computer hardware and software, Felicity Scott came from out of nowhere and appeared to be the only person in the United States of America willing to move to Hispañola, New Mexico, to handle the job.
Ms. Scott could prove to be a Godsend or the Devil's own instrument. What was the old saying? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth? A reminiscent smile played at the corners of his lips. And what a lovely mouth, she had. Eyes, too, a soft light green. Hidden underneath the drab exterior she tried to project, he knew lurked quite a woman. He could tell by the way her eyes sometimes flashed. Why would a lovely women try so hard to hide her alluring charms? And, damn it, what was the color of her hair?
