We parted ways. Keith couldn’t help but ask me why I
called Ma Gracie, My Gracie. I explained as we rode da
elevator to da 8th floor. “When I first began to talk, I used to
hear everybody call my grandmother Ma Gracie. I couldn’t
understand why everybody; my aunts, uncles, cousins, dey all
called her Ma Gracie. She was my grandmother not theirs. I
got jealous. I used to yell at all of dem, dat’s My Gracie, not
