Locked in Emptiness is a poetry collection of the dark side of life and those emotions. There are four upbeat one in there called: Here With Me, I Love You, Nameless, and Softhearted Angel which those where my favorite. It seems personally I have to be in a certain mood to read dark poetry. Locked in Emptiness seems to reveal so much about the author Jessie Ryan Hammond and the struggles, personal set backs and trails he has faced in his life. He clearly expresses this in most all of his poetry in this book. It is written in the classic rhyming form. There are many spiritual struggles in this collection about God and the author trying to hold on to hope and faith. Locked in Emptiness is a 3***+Event. I would encourage Jessie Ryan Hammond to continue in writing more poetry collections for readers of all ages to enjoy!

Jessie Ryan Hammond’s Locked In Emptiness: Dark, metaphorical, and meaningful poetry, written in rhyming format. A highlight poem for me is the poem, called “Candles”. Referring to candles as memories. As an excerpt from his poem:
“Candles they burn - they're stoking my hate
They just burn and burn - like this is my fate
The pain won't go - all I do is shout
I'll hate myself 'til these candles burn out”
Other highlights include, “Red Rose”, “The Crows”, and “Bringer’s Of Pain” If you’re the kind of person that is into the dark atmosphere of a genre, such as Edgar Allen Poe, or Stephen King, this is a must read! I would have to give Jessie Ryan Hammond 4**** out of 5***** stars, for this piece of work. I really enjoy the way the poetry flows and all of the symbolism that is used within the poetry. However, I feel that a few of the poems were a bit recycled; but even with that, they still had different meanings. This was an interesting work of art! Good Job!

Locked in Emptiness is a book of dark poetry told in traditional style. Hammond draws the reader in with plain writ, image provoking statements, and simplistic overviews. His poetry feeds a direct line to his emotional state at the time the words were pressed to paper, and the reader is caught up in his struggles between love, hate, and confusion at the world and the people around him. Though directed as a book of dark poetry, this reader found the poetical nature only on the morose side and not left disturbed by its imagery or emotional content; I would moreover describe the poetry as somber rather than dark, and one should not be put off by that title and kept from enjoying Hammond’s poems.
I thoroughly enjoyed Angel,Sea of Pain, and Another Day easily as my favorites in the book.
I would recommend this book for older teens to grandparents as an enjoyable read.
