Men's voice swirled in her ears while her hands and knees vainly drew together. Shocks of pain form kicks to her breasts and crotch and lower back kept stopping her right hand from its trajectory, the gun inside her jacket. She jerked, and was paralyzed. For a moment the pain ceased, but she found her brain could no longer command her arm; in a frenzy of rage that almost made her black out, she moved; the spasm in her elbow pushed her hand far enough. The blast was instantaneous. It might have been aimed at herself, for all she could tell. A hoarse, blood-choked sound somewhere nearby seemed to be trying to say something like, "Stop, police."
