Jo is considered the expert of the experts in profiling serial killers. Her gift allows her to see and feel what a victim feels right before they die and eventually starts getting an idea of what the killer is going to do. Jo goes back to her hometown to help with the murders of decapitated women. She has not been there in almost ten years and is estranged from her mother and older brother.
Austin Garrett took over the position of sheriff after Jo’s father died. He is actually from Los Angeles and had hoped, when he moved, he would not have to deal with the kind of murders he is now facing. Austin takes one look a Jo and can’t believe she is actually an FBI profiler. After some rocky times during this case, he and Jo eventually fall in love with each other.
Anyone that loves intense mystery and suspense stories is going to love Ties That Bind. The author has a way of keeping you on your toes as you read this book. There are so many twists that you will have a difficult time guessing who the killer is. Ms. Patrick keeps you guessing until you get close to the end of the book. I actually guessed wrong, but the man could have been the killer from the clues the author dropped.
This story has a lot of romantic and subtle Christian undertones but they don’t detract from the mystery. I could not put this one down. The evolvement of the relationship that Jo and Austin have is a realistic journey that we have all had at one time. Jo’s relationship with her family also adds to some of the stress she has. I am looking forward to reading other mysteries by this author. Ties That Bind is one book to be placed on every mystery lover’s bookshelf to be read more than once.

Now she is one of the best profilers in the FBI. Not only can she read the profile of the killer she has an unusual girft where she can feel the pain and the emotions the victims went through.This in itself is enough to play on ones sanity.
When a call comes in to the FBI from sheriff Austin Garrett of Claremont Oregon for help solving a string of murders, they send Jo. After 10 years of being away from Claremont, her home town she did not cherish the idea of returning.They would just have to send someone else although she knew they wouldn't. As she arrives back in Claremont and the investigation gets in to full swing, the body count keeps going up, Jo digs furter into the minds of the victims andthe killer and its soon apparent there is more to this killer then expected. His ultimate goal. Get rid of Jo. As a budding romance begins to occur between Austin and Jo, can he and the sheriffs dept keep her safe. Can old wounds be mended as Jo returns to her home town. Can they find the killer before more women lose their lives to him.
From the first page to the very last this is one edge of your seat thriller. The characters all stand out and connect well with each other. As I read I knew who the killer was, or so I thought After clues about three different suspects, I found out I wasn't as smart as I thought.Ms. Patrick had a way of keeping one guessing right up to the last few pages. Excellent well written suspense. Highly recommended.

Jo McDaniels is a FBI profiler who literally gets into the mind of the perp and his victims. When a serial killer leaves decapitated women to be found in her hometown, Jo can't help but go back after a ten year absence and use her training and special abilities to help the local sheriff. Like most local law enforcement officers, Austin Garrett doesn't want to call in the feds to help solve his case. But if it will prevent another death, then he will. He's surprised to find that Jo's estranged from her family and that her father used to hold his job. Jo finds herself in a sticky situation, she's trying to catch a killer using gifts that have almost cost her career and her sanity in the past, while dealing with her family problems and her growing attraction to the hardworking sheriff.
I quite enjoyed this imaginative romantic suspense. This was a mystery with a lot of inspirational elements throughout as church going and God were mentioned frequently. The relationships in this book were key whether it was between the main couple or the victims and their killer. Jo was such a strong successful heroine and so easy to relate to because of her weak spots. Sheriff Austin Garrett was a wonderful hero, completely supportive of Jo with both her professional and personal obstacles. Add in the fact that he's a loving single dad of a teenage daughter and a dedicated and compassionate lawman he's darn near perfect. The supporting cast was well developed and really fleshed out the storyline. I was particularly fond of the snarky Pendergrass as he practically jumped to life from the first comment he made. I'll be honest and say that I had guessed who the killer was fairly early in the story but still found the book interesting enough to keep reading. If you like your romantic suspense stories with a psychological twist then this one is for you.
