Lightning struck the mountain, and a charged current ran through it until it struck the sword. The sword glowed white for a few seconds, then stopped. The weapon was no longer pure black after the blessing; instead, it was silver with black lines snaking down it, handle blade and all.
“Now you may handle it.”
When Cassidy reached up and grabbed the sword, the bright light died away, leaving only her red eyes in the dark. Whispers gathered around her as she began to swing the sword with superb skill. She turned it, twirled it, and trusted it. She stopped and held the sword before her. Instantly, images flashed in her mind, violent grisly
images. They were brief and made little sense to her. One thing was certain: she heard screams of terror and pain with it in her hand. The terrible shouts got louder and louder, until it was unbearable. Cassidy dropped the sword to the ground, and the voices stopped.
“That is your sword, Cassidy,” Ikol said to her. “It belongs to you.”
