The book is about a city mouse who is tired of his life there. Therefore one day he decided to visit his old home back in the village. He enjoyed the scenerio around, prior to arriving at his destination, but a cat seeing him started running after him. After running helter skelter,he saved himself from it, only to arrive infront of his childhood home. His sister was still living in it and they celebrated her second birthday together. After sometime, he left for his city home, only to encounter a storm on his way back and lost and slipped off his way out. Next morning, he found himself drifting on a lotus leaf and a lady mouse living by the pond where the leaves were drifting saw him and helped him to get out of it. After having a nice bath and sumptuous meal , he had a siesta, dreaming beautiful dreams.But again a cat saw and started pouncing at him, for which he ran and ran and ran till he reached the edge of the forest.He loved the life in forst and lived there happily ever after.
In the book the complexity of a city life and to some extent that of a village too has been highlighted through the life of a mouse. Then arriving at the forest and discovering the delight of its freedom and freshness has been the climax of the story. It simply focusses on the purity and pursuence of life in a very vivid and simplistic manner.
The book is my first attempt at children literature, although the illustrations were done way back in late sixties, when I was barely in my teen years. although I loved to dress up my characters, as I saw in children books of contemporary times, I have abandoned the practice in later time in my other books,as I feel such an approach to illustration does not speak for universal perspective of the theme.
The book is about a little mouse who encounters various experiences on his detour to his village home and ultimately settles down to the freedom of a forest life.
