Laura Magee becomes advice columnist at the Ravensford Chronicle in Ravensford, Massachusetts.  All is going well until she is invited to a dinner at the local college where she trips over the  dead body of Jack Proctor, an art teacher at the school and a friend of her late grandfather.

In order to clear her own name, she decides to discretely investigate the murder with the reluctant help of Michael Farantello, chief of detectives on the Ravensford Police Force.  As old boyfriends pop up and new ones develop, Laura continues her search for the truth.
