My Side is a truly heroic tale of one woman's struggle to make it against adverse conditions. Her tale begins with an empty and depressing childhood living in a broken home with her father and stepmother. She tells of her struggle against child abuse at her stepmother's hands and of the hardships that she, her sister and her brother go through. As time wears on she falls in a love with a seemingly wonderful man but when she becomes pregnant at the tender age of 16, she soon learns that not everything in the world is covered with roses. Even the most beautiful rose still has its thorns. As she ages, she struggles with lies and rumors that are said against her and her children. She deals her husband's family and tries to set things right. She tries to forgive the past but somehow it continues to haunt her, refusing to let her go. Through trials and tribulations Lina has survived all odds to become an extraordinary woman with a harrowing story to tell.

An Introduction
Over the years I have written many of these stories. The first story was written in 1990. As I have rewritten them time and time again, they each become better than the last. Each rewrite is telling the same story but in an entirely different way. Each time I change, so does my writing of this story. When I was depressed, it was written with depression and regret. When I was bitter, it was written with bitterness. This will be the final story of my life that I will ever write. It will also be the most truthful copy I will ever make. Remember that this story is about understanding. Understanding the way my life was, the life that made me the person I am today. I once said I would have liked my life to be different, the reply to me was simple, without the trials of life I would not be who I am today. I guess this isn't such a bad thing. For just one person, you - my reader and friend, if it can just make you understand, then I will have succeeded in my quest, through this journey of my life. The journey I must go back through, before I can go on. Remember I am your friend, welcome to the darkness, welcome to my domain. Welcome to my world.
The rest of the story is about my life, who I am, the life I lived through that made me who I today. It wasn't easy, but I am here, and I am alive, and that is survival.
My memories as an immigrant professional woman in Ottawa, Canada 47 years ago. A new life after having survived the liberal war of a new country Bangladesh on December 16, 1971.
