In Volume 2 of Rocambole starts with a redeemed Rocambole escaping the Toulon hard labor prison with a nucleus of followers who would become his gang to help him fight evil and injustice. His network of followers increases when he is chosen to lead a gang of Parisian thieves, among them is the young Marmouset who becomes Rocambole’s protégé. Rocambole converts the thieves into a patriotic force fighting a new menace that has invaded Europe from India – The Stranglers.
Rocambole runs into Baccarat again in one of his
adventures and convinces her that he had redeemed
himself and solicits her help. Baccarat sees nobility and unselfishness in the new Rocambole, joins forces with him, and became his life-long friend.
Volume 2 takes Rocambole beyond Paris and London. His adventures take him to Italy, Russia, and India. As he leaves for India, he leaves his next assignment to Marmouset who is gradually entrusted with leadership of the gang whenever Rocambole was away.
