Synopsis
Brian Moore is nineteen years old, and has only six months in on a fifty to life prison sentence. But that’s the least of his problems. In OL' TIMER we find ourselves looking back into the life of the young, reckless, and criminal life of Brian Moore. Now nineteen, he is facing a lifetime in prison after being sentenced to two consecutive 25-year-life sentences. His wild lifestyle involving drugs, women, and money has finally caught up with him and his future now rests within the Department of Corrections in upstate New York. Or does it?
His support system of his new wife Sonia, two young children and best friend, LaQuana, are all that keeps his hopes up of not serving the entire sentence. Due to a conviction based on hearsay, Brian is highly confident that he will be out within a few years. Will he manage to be able to survive in prison? Will he be able to stay out of trouble and not get extra time added on? Who knows when it comes to Brian since he can't seem to leave his street life in the streets.
On the outside, unknown to Brian, one particular person is just as anxious for him to be released. That person is Jennifer Jackson, a twenty-something-year-old drug lord who is determined to see Brian out of prison. Their past run-ins resulted in unfinished business for Jennifer and she will do everything in her power to tie up all loose ends. Will she be able to let go of the past and move on with her life? Not quite. Jennifer is not that kind of woman!
Braithwaite does not disappoint with this follow-up to Youngin'. This story allows us to see what happens when your past comes back to haunt you in the worst way. Arlene Brathwaite vividly depicts the life of an inmate who is determined to get his life in order, but his past keeps getting in the way. We are able to get caught up with the life of Brian Moore and also find out what happens to Devon and Jason. Street fiction readers should add this to their piles of books to read, they won't be disappointed.
