What would you do if your friend copped off with the man you loved? Wouldn't it break your heart? Abbie is heartbroken when Richard prefers her lovely French pen friend Colette over her.

Synopsis:

Abbie's Palmer is ecstatic when she receives an e-mail from her beautiful French 'e-mate' Colette telling her she wants to visit in the summer holidays. Then Abbie realises Colette will find out she lied about her background, so she tries to put her off with a message saying she is going away for the summer.

Unfortunately Colette doesn't get Abbie's message. She turns up unexpectedly and that's when Abbie's problems start. First of all Colette turns out to be an absolute stunner. She looks more like eighteen than sixteen and Abbie feels young and fat in comparison. Secondly Abbie has fallen in love with the gorgeous Richard Farnham, a young teaching student who is going to do his placement at Abbie's school, but Richard falls for Colette instead, even though Colette claims to be in love with someone else. Abbie is heartbroken, but tries not to let them know how she feels. Can she ever make Richard notice her, or will he be always out of reach?

UK price £5.50. Currently available from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk, but should be available from Barnes & Noble, Blackwell's, Waterstones, etc, soon.

Excerpt
This was it! This was the chance Abbie had been waiting for, while no one was around. It was now or never!
‘I’ve got something for you.’
Without a moment’s hesitation she opened her bag and pulled out the parcel. Shyly she handed it to him.
‘Just a little thank you for inviting me and Shireen.’
‘Oh.’ Richard blushed, but Abbie was sure he was pleased. Then he read the gift tag and his face clouded. ‘Abbie, I…’
Abbie paled. She’d embarrassed him! ‘Sorry, I didn’t write that ‘cos I fancy you, or anything!’
Slowly Richard opened the wrapper and read the CD cover. After a pause of what seemed like forever to Abbie he said, ‘This is really nice of you, Abbie, but you shouldn’t have.’
Abbie wanted to run away, but her legs wouldn’t move. She had made a horrible fool of herself, and she didn’t know what to do about it, so she was more than amazed when Richard bent down, and kissed her gently on the cheek.
‘Thank you, Abbie. I’ll enjoy listening to it,’ he said softly.
Abbie’s spine tingled. As far as she was concerned this was an invitation! Before she could stop herself she was standing on tiptoe, her arms around his neck, her lips pressed against his. She could feel her body go warm. For a moment they stood rigid on the spot. Richard put his arms briefly around her waist, then, as though he realised the danger of the situation, he prised her hands away from his neck.
‘Abbie! Don’t!’
He held her wrists tightly in his grasp. Abbie realised in horror that he had her lipstick on his lips!
‘Sorry!’ she said, bewildered. ‘I’m really sorry!’
She grabbed her bag and ran blindly through the door into the dance hall.
Richard tore after her. ‘Abbie, wait a minute…’ but Abbie pushed her way through the throng on the dance floor, until she ran headlong into Shireen.
‘Abbie, what’s wrong?’ she asked in alarm, but Abbie, wiping her eyes, just shook her head miserably in reply.
She saw Janine intercept Richard. He was hastily rubbing Abbie’s lipstick mark from his face. ‘Hey, Richie! There you are! Where’ve you been?’
‘To the bog, that’s all,’ replied Richard, his puzzled gaze fixed on Abbie.
‘Well, Colette’s been pining for you.’ Janine pulled forward an astonished Colette and pushed her into Richard’s arms. ‘There! That’s better!’
Abbie had to turn away as Richard sank his face into Colette’s hair and kissed her.
