Frozen feelings. That was why Mark didn't laugh at jokes when everyone else was laughing or cry at funerals when everyone else was crying. It explained so much. Mark thought that he was different, maybe a little crazy, but the counselor helped him understand that he had been conditioned to suppress his feelings. It wasn't unusual for someone who had grown up in a troubled family, especially as an only child.
Now there was hope. He was experiencing a meltdown with Judy. He was feeling something. Was it love? He couldn't wait to be with her, to look at her, to touch her, to smell her. At the same time, he was afraid to yield to the new feelings. What if she didn't feel the same way? What if something happened to her?
