If you need to amend your return, please allow your original return to complete processing and your refund to be issued before you send it in. If not, both your original refund and your amended return will both be sitting in the IRS office. This is not a problem if you can wait the 8-12 weeks of processing time that an amended return can take. Longer if your return is missing information, (your signature, for example) and it has to be returned back to your. Guess what? You start all over again! If your return is selected for examination, your 8-12 weeks increases, assuming you even get the refund at all.
Please use the correct year tax for the correct year’s information. Don’t mix and match 2004 W-2 with 2005 1040 and vice versa. And never, ever send in W-2s with the incorrect name or social security number. I don’t care if you have 5 correct W-2 forms and only 1 wrong one. Invariably, that will be the one that will be focused on.
