Beverly Crandall has struggled to "pull the handcart" alone since the death of her husband, Dave, several years before. Now she is faced with a different dilemma. For a couple of years she has been dating her widowed dentist, but things get a little confused when she meets Bob, the widowed brother of a member of her ward. He owns a ranch in Texas, and is only in town for a brief visit, but it is long enough to stir things up.
Faced with a choice between two men, Beverly realized the time has come to choose. Many new experiences await her as she acquired a teen-age stepson and young adult stepdaughter. She also struggles for her own identify in the shadow of her late husband's wife. Along the way, she encounters foes and find friends in her struggle to Push On.
"I think you two would probably get along pretty well, much as it pains me to admit that my wife might be right," Stan admitted. "I say that if you want to meet Beverly, forget Carolyn, because if she gets poking around it in, she'll just mess it up anyway. Beverly goes by this way every morning walking her little boy to school, and then she goes jogging around the neighborhood. She's got brown hair, about to her shoulders, and she's usually wearing navy blue sweats. The little guy is a towhead, blond like his dad was, I imagine. I usually see her on my way to work."
Bob walked brisly down the street. Based on his calculations, he could nod to her in a friendly, passing fellow-pedestrian sort of way as he overtook her, and then if he swung back around the block, he could catch her coming back from the school and since he had already nodded his acquaintance, it would be quite appropriate for him to strike up a conversation with her on some pretense.
Carolyn was beside herself with joy. "Didn't I tell you, Stan, that the Lord would find a way! There Bob was, just sitting on the sofa, and he decides at that precise moment to go for a walk, right when Beverly and Davey were on the way to school! You make fun of me, Stan, but I tell you, my family walk by the promptings, make no mistake about it."
"I have no doubt but what he was prompted," Stan chuckled to himself.
