Crossroads may be part of the travel, with having to decide to go one way or the other, one way and then the other. Whichever, at crossroads, the traveling is fixed on where to and why. Better it is to mistake the directions but not the reasons for the journey.
Decisions, directions, reasons to travel, when all resolved, will get you from crossroads to where you've chosen to go, even if the only way there is an old road seldom used.

Beginnings
Here and now,
At this moment,
As we speak,
Going forward,
This friendship
Begins.
Companionship
I never walk lonely.
By myself,
Of course.
An only person,
Yes.
But always accompanied.
Walking goes along
With the surroundings,
With all outdoors
All in dialog,
Not just what I want to hear
But of the moment.
Breezes through branches,
Shadows responding
To sunlight,
And rains
When needing
To have their say,
All accompany me
As my thoughts,
Active with questions,
Listen to their
Sufficient answers.
In this companionship,
There’s never
A lonely walk.
Skylights
Jupiter’s on tonight.
And with our backs
To the ground,
The weight of the world
Becomes a gift
To our senses.
The night’s
A pleasing shadow
Across this spread
Of universe.
A moment here,
A heaven
Out there.
As the lights above
Send us eternity,
To spend through one night,
Here on this hill,
As brief in time
As haiku on a page.
Unanswered
Listen to the past,
Hear echoes
Of questions about
The future.
Search what passes
As answers.
Find keys
For opening doors,
Going back and forth
To what was
And is,
To places and times that aren’t
Of questions unanswered
But proven and real.
Nothing exists
That offers no hint of itself,
No signal of its location,
Except for promises,
As is tomorrow,
Looked to
And making known
That it never was.
If you find the future
Ask it where it’s been.
If it has no rust,
No worn moving parts,
What has it ever done?
And how,
Never noticed or heard,
Never witnessed?
Trust it as genuine?
I’ll have to see it first.
Plans
In quicksand together, struggling out.
Plan A is now no more.
Plan B’s not much to worry about
For getting ahead and staying secure.
Build new muscle, feed the marrow.
Withdraw money from the bank.
Get to a new road, wide or narrow,
All checks written to self are now blank.
Review whatever’s been learned here,
Begin another story to retell.
What’s next, take aim and head there.
Welcome change and manage it well.
Travel assured, load up the Toyota,
Find a hilltop place with a view.
Be attentive to every iota
Of old challenges surpassed by the new.
Compare and contrast this with that,
What’s known against what awaits.
In time, destined, again we’ll be at
Plan C in these United States.
Renewed Old Places
The pastures and parks
And traveled spaces
Have changed.
The houses in between the trees
And corners
And walkways
Are nicer,
The busy streets busier,
With wider smiles
Like a dentist’s new handiwork
On old cavities.
But who will work on
And divert the old bite
Of these new breezes
Now blowing through
Where there was no opening
For their passage?
Who will keep
Cold hearts from freezing anew?
What will turn this new chill away
From being relentless?
The old cold stares
Still burn through hard eyes,
The tigers behind them
Are better fed,
But still untamed.
Columbus Day
Holiday
All day.
Not even the mailman comes.
Yet Columbus did.
