When a rare condition strikes you out of the blue what do you do - sit and weep or get up, get out there, have fun and write a book about it!!!

A short and amusing book showing some of the pitfalls and difficulties  awaiting the newly disabled. Things that the able-bodied take for granted appear in a new and often hilarious light. Readers who are newly disabled have found it a great comfort to know they are not alone, and able-bodied realise there is a whole different world out there of which they were totally unaware! This book is aimed at everyone, and is both a light read and easy to pack!!

It also shows the more serious side of being disabled, the indignities, the way the medical establishment treat you and some possible solutions. It tries to highlight the very real problems caused by such a rare condition that most GPs could work for a hundred years and never encounter.

Informative, funny and an easy read - take it on holiday if you dare!!!!!

Excerpt

So here I am, sitting in the middle of the tools section of B&Q. This is not my preferred place. In fact on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it about minus 90. But I don't have much choice.

Since I have been in a wheelchair, I have discovered just how differently men shop as opposed to women. When my carer/chauffeur spots a well stocked tools section, he virtually salivates. In fact, he has all the appearance of a woman in a designer dress shop with the word SALE emblazoned across every rack. I have looked at the screws/screwdrivers/whatever that he is handling with a slightly glazed expression and in the past I have said things like, "haven't you got two of those already?" and he has said, with a look of incredulity that I could so misunderstand what is going on, "not like this one, no" and I would give up and go and look at the lighting section (I never buy anything, I just like to look). Well that was the past. There's no point saying anything now, partly because he is well over 6 feet tall and I am reduced to the level of a pushchair, but also because he has parked me out of the way and wandered off, so he wouldn't hear me anyway.
