Pragamore, A New Beginning is book one of an epic fantasy about the live of a young would-be wizard living in Southern England, circa 1250. It teaches triditional English folklore as well as events and characters who lived in that era.
As the central character, Richard Alvis, learns that his late grandfather was a wizard. He then sets his sights on finding out how he died, and just what it would take to follow in his footsteps.
Hoping for this very thing, his grandfather, William, enlisted the help of three entities of the forest to teach the lad should he make this decision. As eighteen-year-old Richared descovers his past, he is faced with a life changing decision - to continue his life in the world of men, or enter the mysterious and beautiful world of those whom he had just discovered...
My novels are strictly English folklore set in thirteenth century England, about the time of Richard, 'The Lion-hearted'. The Pragamore Chronicles tells you of the life of a young half -elfin raised in the world of men, and then introduced to a world very few men would come to know. This life-changing event comes about after learning his grandfather, who died before he was born, was actually a great and powerful wizard. Encouraged by his grandmother, and a White Wizard named Krypendorf, Richard Alvis embarks on a journey that will change his life, and the lives of countless others forever. He will learn that dragons are not the evil beasts the world of men would have you believe, faeries come in many sizes and demeanors, and the power of life and death is often wielded by those who least deserve it...
Pragamore, A New Beginning is a 6 by 9, full color cover, epic fantasy novel published by Author House. It contains the artwork of Earnest Lawson, Terry and Tammy Barr. It is the first of an epic series, The Pragamore Chronicles, which follows the life of Richard Alvis, a young Englishman living in Southern England in the thirteenth century.
In this series of novels, we not only want to re-introduce the illustrated fantasy novel, but also teach something - real English folklore. It's an enomaly that we here in the United States derive most of our folklore from England, but have molded some of it to fit our liking. Now, a great many of us look on witches and wizards as bad, evil beings having close ties with Satan himself. In England, and to this day, their folklore depicts these characters as being good. Not that they can't turn to the darker side like their human counterparts, but at least they start out like the elves - good at heart.
Pragamore takes in concideration that the reader doesn't know much about English folklore. So...I, the author, will take you through the eyes of young Richard to discover a world he had previously thought existed only in the minds and imaginations of gifted story-tellers. Follow him through Pragamore, A New Beginning; Krypendorf, The Fourth Lesson; Portal Stone,The Return of Laphidius Monks, and on through his life and adventures. Learn as he does that faeries are not all the same size and shape of Tinkerbell, crones are not nearly as friendly as your grandmother, and dragons are not as evil as the world of men would have you believe...

The ground trembled. Richard, remembering the dream, looked at the crystals in front of him, but saw no sign of a dragon - only lights moving toward the staff he was now holding. As they entered its base, he closed his eyes, suddenly remembering things he had no way of knowing - things from his own past and the pasts of others. The ground continued shaking and Richard dropped to the stone on one knee. The gnome, Yenwolk, knelt behind him, holding his shoulders and the book.
"Hold on, son. Everything's all right here. You should read this now."
Richard looked down at the book in front of him and read:
Through mirrored stones
I beckon thee come
into this world
where two can be as one...
Rise from here,
oh dragon's breath,
and bring with thee
the One that rests.
Slowly, a white mist began to seep through the crystals on the lake directly in front of and about ten feet from the summoning stone. The mist spread, hiding the crystals, until it reached the stone's base. It then stopped abruptly as if some unseen hand forbade it to pass.
"Hold on, Richard!" Yenwolk shouted as the quake became louder. "He comes!"
