Oh, Man
Oh, man. This was not what I expected...at all. I cannot say that I agree with all of the ideas, but I liked the message of the book. I appreciated all the ecology, social justice, consumption, resources management...all very important. I had no idea it will go in that direction. It started off as X Files and I was instantly glued.
The science bits and nature descriptions were phenomenal. I wanted to go diving at one point and I can't even swim. I shook my shoulders when I read touching a liana makes a pile of bugs land on top of you. I had to Google some of the places because the writing made me curious. It was like reading National Geographic.
The way MG Hardie achieved that balance between story moving forward and philosophy reminds me of Richard Bach and Michael Crichton books...this one had me hooked
5 Stars
After strange mysteries begin to alter Devon's perceptions, the ordinariness of Heathrow’s existence gives way to a very believable tale of horror as he learns about two unseen “species” apparently at war over the fate of humankind. 'Them' by MG Hardie is surprisingly vivid and descriptive.
