I am a big fan of love. I really am. But I am sick of reading about it. Everyone has some romantic tale to spin about falling in love, looking deep into someone¿s eyes, and discovering that moment of bliss when their souls connected. Oh please! However, this book of poetry has made my cynical heart flutter. Now here¿s a man who knows what to say to a woman without using stale images, ¿played-out¿ words, and overly sexual context. In one poem, Savant compares a woman to a poem. Every stanza draws a parallel between an artist¿s creation and the love this woman has created. In another poem, he discusses his woman (his girl), but not in a giddy wish list kind of way. Instead, he creates a picture¿an emotional, spiritual picture¿of a woman who shares the passions of his heart. In every poem, Savant aims to emphasize the spiritual connection. It¿s not about physical beauty in his works, but the connection that can be created between two people, which is indeed, quite beautiful and desirable. Savant¿s use of reflective thought provides insight into his views on relationships without giving too much of away. Therefore, the reader is able to draw his or her own conclusions and analyze the status of his or her relationship. Reading Savant¿s book is like attending a marriage retreat in order to re-ignite the flame, and at less than twenty dollars, it¿s a lot cheaper. In some ways, it is probably more effective. In conclusion, Don Savant¿s Book of Poems, Sonnets, and Vows for Relationships and Weddings reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite movies, ¿Love Jones.¿ In the movie, one of the main characters is being criticized for being on a date while he and his wife are separated. He says, ¿Everybody (is) running around falling, leaping into love. Falling in love aint sh**. Will somebody please tell me how to stay there?¿ Now if he¿d had his copy of Savant¿s book, he¿d already know.
