Smiling Man was furious. Rage was coming off him in a toxic cloud as he charged through the water like a demented phantom. This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. How the hell could someone so petit move so fast? And what spooked her in the first place? She should have been fast asleep. That’s why they waited.
Now it was obvious they’d waited too long. He knew he should have acted earlier. But Matey was insistent. It was a Saturday night, he argued. Too many people would be out and about until the early hours on a Saturday night. Especially on a night as lovely and warm as this.
But Smiling Man should have gone with his instinct. Why did he always listen to other people? He’d spent his whole life listening to other people. He had to take a deep breath now before he choked on his frustration.

This was a refreshingly different book set in beautiful Irish surroundings . At odds with the glorious scenery and Irish charm is the brutal acts of brutality carried out on lovely young tourists. Though by the end I'd correctly guessed the identities of the perpetrators, I was still taken by surprise by the ending which I won't disclose . Well worth a read

This book had me intrigued from the first page. Set in 1960s Ireland young girls are being attacked. Written in the perspective of the perpetrator, a guarda and an American girl Dakota I was hooked from the start. With a few twists and turns and a unexpected surprise at the end this book is most certainly worth a read.
