Seventeen-year-old Heather Caldwell strives to follow her dream of dancing a major role in a famous mountain outdoor drama even though she struggles with grief from the death of her boyfriend by an unknown assailant. Her dreams turn to panic when she discovers who the killer is and that she is his target. Before she has time to alert authorities, the killer makes his move and Heather runs for her life into the mountains where she pits her strength and wits against a skilled and formidable enemy.
The first time Heather Caldwell saw VIVA! EL PASO, an outdoor summer drama staged in a natural amphitheater among the Franklin Mountains, she knew she wanted to dance in it. Now at the age of seventeen, she is ready. Her boyfriend doesn’t like the idea and tries to dissuade her. His sudden death not only hurts and horrifies her, but makes her doubt herself.
Heather continues dancing and vows to follow her dream just to spite the killer, at the same time trying to figure out who he is. When the dancer who portrays a devastated widow injures her knee, Heather gets the role. She is an instant success because she pours her grief for Chad into the part.
The killer, however, is someone close to Heather, someone she thought she could trust, and Heather is his target. When she discovers this, he makes his move before she has time to get help. Heather is alone in the amphitheater parking lot and he has a gun. There is no one to help her but the mountain.
