Gripping suspense, fiery romance and delightful humor, combined with fascinating Civil War history, and a dangerous fight to save a Civil War battlefield. Hallowed Ground weaves all into a superb story that will keep the reader spellbound.
“I wonder if this qualifies as burnout?” Samantha Paige would never have believed she would get fired from her position as Critical Care Coordinator for the hospital. Of course, she never considered the possibility that she would sock a pompous surgeon in the face, either. But, that’s exactly what happened.
Desperate for some peace and quiet, she flees to her loving Uncle Rufus and the beautiful farm nestled in the hills south of Nashville near the historic town of Franklin, Tennessee, where she had spent the happiest moments of her life.
Upon her arrival, she comes face to face with TJ Carter, the handsome, driven Civil War historian. He is president of the Civil War battlefield preservation association and is fighting to protect the remains of the Franklin Battlefield from commercial development, and Rufus’ farm is the key piece of land wanted by both sides. What neither she nor TJ recognize is the lengths to which the unscrupulous developer and the nefarious men backing him are prepared to go to get what they want.
The attraction between Sam and TJ is immediate and powerful, and the last thing that Sam thinks she wants or needs. She struggles both to protect her uncle and his land and to resist her blooming desire for TJ. As the passion she feels for him slips out of her control, she finds herself fighting at TJ’s side not only for the land she loves, but also for their very lives.
PROFESSIONAL BOOK REVIEW:
Hallowed Ground
By Cindy Ziperman
What a great little ditty of a book! When I am asked to do a review, of course I never quite know what I am getting myself into. This book was an excellent read! Very well written with descriptive language that placed me inside of the pages like a spoon full of jam in a freshly baked croissant. Warm and inviting, the story of a very strong and determined female. The likes of what we should be reading more about for ourselves as females and for our daughters. This however was not just a love story for the current ages, it was a story of determination and will and the bond that makes their fighting together both in love and business all that much stronger. While the story is not one that would normally pull you in, the writer, Cindy Ziperman has such finesse that the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Samantha Paige clamped her hands over her ears, but it didn’t help. Between Dr. Lescher’s ranting and raving, and several board members shouting to try to be heard, the decibel level in the room had become painful. San wasn’t trying to be difficult. She wanted to answer the questions being fired at her, she really did. If she weren’t so damn tired, her brain would function better. Why did everyone have to shout?
This god-awful mess was partially her fault. She’d let her temper get the better of her. For someone who prided herself on her professionalism, she’d acted in a most unprofessional manner. She regretted it. In all her years of nursing, nothing like this had ever happened. In point of fact, Samantha was renowned for her self-control. Her job as Critical Care Coordinator put her in a position where everyone depended on her to stay cool and level headed in any crisis. She never let them down.
Now, all Sam wanted was the opportunity to tell these people why she’d done what she had, to explain what had driven her to explode like that. She’d never meant to cause all this commotion. However, she had to admit, the sensation of her clenched fist connecting with Dr. Lescher’s face had been delicious and went a long way to salve the grief and frustration which felt like they would crush her.
Obeying the summons from the hospital’s administrator, she’d arrived at his office expecting to be disciplined. She accepted that. But during all this loud discourse, why hadn’t anyone spoken about the patient? What about the dead woman whose husband and children left the hospital in shock and were just beginning their period of mourning? What about them?
Dr. Lescher finally ended his loud tirade and turned to face Samantha. Mr. Robbins, the hospital’s administrator, looked toward her and asked, “Miss Paige, is there something you would like to say Dr. Lescher at this point?”
Sam squared her shoulders and directed her words to the red-faced surgeon standing before her. “Yes, there is something I feel I need to say.” She took a step closer to him. “Dr. Lescher, you are an insufferable, conceited asshole!”
The collective gasps of the other people present swirled around the plush office. Several of the well-dressed people sitting around the long boardroom table looked shocked and dismayed, while the men and women standing around the perimeter of the office, dressed in scrubs of lab coats looked shocked as well, but also a little amused. All eyes were fixed on Samantha Rene Paige with her fists clenched and her eyes blazing. Dressed in blood-soaked scrubs, she stood pointing at the sputtering, shaking man, who was also dressed in bloody scrubs, and who looked like he was going to have a stroke.
Mr. Robbins was on his feet again. “Miss Paige, I warn you, young woman, you are speaking to a respected surgeon on the staff of this hospital.”
Sam turned her head to stare at Mr. Robbins. “Respected surgeon? Ha! By whom? Ask them! Any of them!”
She swung her arm to encompass several of the doctors with their backs pressed against the wall. Her heart sank when not one of them offered to speak.
“Yes, Miss Paige,” Mr. Robbins continued, “a surgeon respected by everyone, it seems, but you.”
Lescher put his hands on his hips and sneered at Sam.
Focusing her attention back on Dr. Lescher, she glared right back at him and said, “You want me to amend my statement? Fine, I’ll be happy to.” She took another step toward the gloating surgeon. “Dr. Lescher, you are an insufferable, conceited, MURDERING asshole.”
The smug expression on Lescher’s face disappeared, replaced by a sickly pallor. Satisfied her verbal dagger had struck the target, Sam whirled back toward Robbins. “Better?”
There was absolute silence in the office except in the far corner, where Dr. Geoffrey Phillips and his partner, Dr. William Greene seemed to be having a terrible time holding back very inappropriate laughter.
Gingerly touching the swollen red lump under his left eye, Dr. Lescher pointed a shaking finger toward Samantha and backed away from her. “Gerald, I’m warning you. If she strikes me again, I’ll sue this hospital.”
“Don’t worry, Randall, she’s not going to hit you again. Miss Paige, you have left me no choice in this matter. You are fired effective immediately, unless Dr. Lescher feels he wants to bring the police in on this matter.” He looked at Lescher. “What about it, Randall? It’s up to you. After all, she did assault you.”
Sam wanted to laugh. Lescher didn’t do magnanimous well at all. She could read his mind. He knew, good and damned well, that he was culpable in the patient’s death. An arrest would only lead to publicity. He needed to stay safely behind hospital walls.
Exhausted, Mr. Robbins, a small man let himself drop back into his chair, which dwarfed him. He never imagined having to preside over a scene such as this. He was a hospital administrator, not a boxing referee.
