Brain Candy
As I read other reviews regarding The Roswell Protocols, I noticed I wasn't the only person who noticed that the character development wasn't exactly as High Tech as the storyline--however, I am (apparently) in the minority when it comes to MY personal view of character development anyway. I MUCH prefer a novel to be Story-Driven rather than Character-Driven. I cite the books of Matthew Reilly as an example of what I find entertaining. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good character development as much as anyone--and it wasn't exactly absent here, just not super developed--but I don't believe its necessary in order for a book to be an absolutely absorbing and fun read. This book is one such classic example.
The Roswell Protocols brings up one of my favorite genre's to read--and NO, I don't mean sci-fi--I'm talking about the good old, 'What If' scenario...and here its doosey: What IF an alien spacecraft--noticed by multiple nations at once--crash landed on earth. Of COURSE we would want to get to it first, but What IF it were a race, and as we all know in the REAL world, there just aren't any prizes for second place. 'The Roswell Protocols' were specifically set up to be placed into motion for just such an event, and THIS IS IT.
The action is plenty, the adventure is real and the entertainment is HIGH...in fact I normally would give this a full 5 stars, but I believe that we haven't seen the last of Allan Burd, and I am therefore reserving that fifth star for what will surely be a slam-bang follow-up...or at least I am HOPING for another book, whether a direct sequel or a stand-alone I don't really care. I rarely give out 5 stars for first novels believing that by doing so I don't really allow for much growth...where does an author go from there? (I admit that I USED to do it, but haven't for quite some time) For those looking for a perfect summer 'Beach Read' that I like to refer to as Fine Brain Candy, I submit that you cannot go wrong with a copy of 'The Roswell Protocols'.

Fast Paced Fun
If you are looking for a fun, fast-paced action thriller then here it is. I really enjoyed this. A UFO crashes and everyone reacts just as I imagine they would. Smartly written too. Just buy it and enjoy the ride.
X-Files meets Tom Clancy
On a cold November evening, an object is caught on radar descending to Earth from space at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in the USA. After observing it, they quickly realize that this is no ordinary object. Impact is imminent. Alerts go out. Then, as suddenly as it appeared, it vanished. However, the one thing that everyone is fairly certain of, is that this thing did crash-land, just not where everyone thought it would. So, we assemble a team of experts to investigate and initiate THE ROSWELL PROTOCOLS, hence the book's title.
Unfortunately, we were not alone in noticing this extra-terrestial phenomena. Canada is already a step ahead of us, dispatching their best aircrafts to search for the object. Russia puts their best agent on the case. Japan decides to make a play for it as well, bring out their most advanced technological stealth weapons. And if that wasn't enough to make this book exciting wait until you meet the survivors.
From the opening sequence which gets off to a rollicking start, this novel just didn't let up. The tension keeps on building and never lets up until the final pages. The characters are a blast (my favorite is Stacy Michaels, the innocent children's book author who gets swept up in all this). I even found the science and technology stuff interesting (and I'm not a science or technology person). I enjoyed every page right up until the very end (and I won't spoil anything for anyone) becuase I had no idea how everything was going to be resolved. And yet it was and it all worked!
So, if you're a fan of the X-Files or Tom Clancy, or James Rollins or Matthew Reilly and maybe even for fans of Stephen King, this is the book for you. You will NOT be disappointed. As for me, I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel.
