Nevada’s oddest, wackiest and most offbeat people, places and things are highlighted in a new book, Nevada Curiosities, written by Richard Moreno, former longtime publisher of Nevada Magazine and author of several books about the Silver State.
The book spotlights more than 135 of the state’s most unusual attributes ranging from the famed Shoe Tree on the Loneliest Road in America (U.S. 50) to the old Pioneer Saloon in the ghost town of Goodsprings, southwest of Las Vegas.
Readers will learn where to find the world’s most expensive hamburger, a café devoted almost entirely to chocolate, the site of the world rock-paper-scissors championship and the location of the Laundromat owned by the notorious “Hollywood Madam.”
Moreno is author of Roadside History of Nevada, the Nevada Trivia Book and Endless Nevada. In 2007, he was honored with the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen award.
